How to Clean Different Upholstery Fabrics - Microfiber, Velvet, Leather, and More
Choosing the best carpet and upholstery cleaner for your specific fabric type makes all the difference between refreshed furniture and permanent damage.
Finding Your Fabric’s Cleaning Code
Every piece of upholstered furniture comes with a tag that
includes a cleaning code letter. This tiny label, usually tucked under cushions
or along the bottom edge, tells you exactly how to clean that specific fabric
safely. The letter W means water-based cleaners are safe to use. An S indicates
you should only use solvent-based cleaners. WS means either type works fine.
The letter X is the strictest, allowing only vacuuming or professional
cleaning.
